Welcome!!
We are the Synoptic Meteorology Research Group within the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at CU Boulder. Our research interests broadly focus on understanding the dynamics, variability, and predictability of synoptic-scale environments conducive to the development of high-impact weather events. We currently are employing a combination of long-term reanalysis datasets, operational and idealized model output, and representative case studies to investigate high-latitude atmospheric rivers, near-freezing precipitation events, polar–subtropical jet superpositions, lee cyclogenesis events along the Colorado Front Range, and the predictability of the upper-tropospheric jet stream. ***Student / Postdoctoral Opportunities*** Those individuals with a keen interest in synoptic-dynamic meteorology, midlatitude weather systems, and forecasting applications are encouraged to contact Prof. Andrew Winters about opportunities to join our research group! |
